About the other Oriental Medicine Modalities:

Tuina:is Chinese Therapeutic Massage. Adult Tuina is a combination of gentle massage, deep massage and manipulations on the joints and bones. It is used on very specific locations and effective for treating muscle pain, soft tissue injury, neck, back, spinal problems and increasing circulation.

Cupping: by using glass, bamboo or plastic cups to create a suction at the surface of the skin, cupping is used to pull up, toxins or old, stuck blood. Sometimes the cups are left in one place and other times after a lubricant has been placed on the skin, the practitioner will move the cups back and forth. It feels similar to a massage, the main difference being, if there is old, stuck blood that comes to the surface of the skin, it will leave a black/purple/red (like a bruise) ring on the skin until your body is able to metabolize the toxins and blood.

Moxibustion:is heat therapy. Either by placing moxa directly or indirectly on the skin, it creates internal warmth. It should never feel like it is burning your skin. Most find it extremely soothing and relaxing, although it is smoky and aromatic.

Gua-Sha: is an area-specific way to release toxins, heat and stagnant blood. After a liniment or oil is on the surface of the skin, the practitioner will use a gua-sha tool and rub the tool over the skin at a shallow depth (comfortable to the patient) until a purple color or redness appears on the skin. The color will stay until the body can metabolize it.

Auriculotherapy: is a way to diagnose and treat the body through the micro-system of the ear. Used as an adjunctive therapy, the practitioner will use an ear probe (non-invasive) to check specific points on the ear. If these spots are sensitive then an ear seed (vacarria seed) or acupuncture needle will be placed over the tender spot to stimulate the area, bringing Qi and blood to help create positive change.

Food Therapy: is using food and it's properties as medicine. There are many types of properties food has including: the warming and cooling values of food, the ability to moisten the body, strengthen the body's Qi, calm and relax the mind, reduce the production of mucous, and others. Ultimately, Food Therapy is used to increase your body's absorption of nutrients.
